Abstract
Data migration is one-time movement of data that involves some sort of restructuring of that data while the usage of that data remains constant. The purpose of the thesis is the display of theoretical background of data migration and its practical application on a large scale SharePoint system. The thesis is composed of two parts, at which the first one is theoretical. In the theoretical part the data migration, phases and activities of a migration project and data migration in Microsoft SharePoint are defined. The second part is dedicated to practical display of data migration in a real world Microsoft SharePoint system. The states of the system before and after data migration are shown. The migration plan, divided among project activities and SharePoint content migration utility are also introduced. The utility that is mentioned uses Advanced Programming Interface (API) to transfer data from one system to another. Concepts for this process are shown. At the end of thesis the critical evaluation takes place.
