Abstract

The topic of this thesis is the development of an electronic device which serves as a communication accessory to the emergency communication service that is used in the Republic of Slovenia. The emergency communication system in Slovenia ZARE is a standalone wireless system that alarms the rescue workers through pagers. There are two problems with this system. The first one is a limited number of available pagers. The second one is a weak radio signal in some areas. Both problems can be solved to a large degree if the pager messages are also retransmitted into the cell phone GSM network that is available almost everywhere. Detailed description of the design and construction of the device that automatically forwards ZARE pager messages to rescue workers cell phones is given in the thesis. Standard, inexpensive components are used and a basic user interface is provided. Circuit schematics, construction details, and software procedures are included.
