    Abstract

The thesis describes a solution that allows customers to use text messaging in order to improve their business processes, marketing and sales. The solution enables customers to create, use and control various SMS services; from simple, such as voting and information service, to more complex, such as information on demand, prize draws, use of tokens, and other. In the introduction, the participants and other elements involved in the communication chain are presented, as well as different ways of connecting one to another. For better understanding, an example of a communication flow is given. The proposed solution behaves as an SMS aggregator and a value-added service provider in one, so the emphasis is on the communication between SMS center and SMS aggregator. Only by knowing the protocols that allow this communication, it is possible to successfully connect the external application to the edge of the cellular network, and send and receive short messages. The following section gives a review of a variety of services using short messages in Slovenia and abroad. Also presented are the difficulties that customers who want to exploit the potential of short messages have to deal with. The main part focuses on presenting the solution that reduces or even eliminates the impact of the problems that customers have to deal with. All the functional requirements that the solution has to meet in order for application to penetrate the market and attract new customers are presented. The section also describes the application, on the basis of which the presented solution was developed. Participation in the development of this application, which has been in use for more than two years, allowed a critical view at the idea and thus influenced the process of making the solution.
