Matic Jeran (2011) Service catalog and catalog management tools. EngD thesis.
Abstract
In my thesis I described what service catalog is and demonstrated the implementation of it. I focused on the service catalog as presented in ITIL. There are presented aspects of a service catalog within the process of service management as well as organizational, strategic and procedural aspects of a service catalog within the company. With the introduction of service-oriented architecture in the company, the number of services that companies offer substantially increase. In the introduction I described the service-oriented architecture, its definition, elements and principles that should hold the IT architects. I pointed out the advantages that a company acquired by the introduction of SOA. Presented is ArchiMate language for describing SOA because service has the central role in ArchiMate language. Paper later presents an ITIL services management process where services play a central role as well in service-oriented architecture. The service is presented through the service lifecycle and placed in a service portfolio. Part of a service portfolio is a service catalog. The main theoretical part describes the service catalog management, definition, scope, value added management and the basic concepts in the service catalog management. It is presented in the organizational, strategic and procedural aspects of catalog services. The practical part presents the solutions of service catalog within the presentation of services needed to implement a commercial product. These services are embedded in a simple service catalog. When testing commercial tools to manage a catalog of services these services are implemented in tools Service-now and BMC Remedy.
