    Abstract

The aim of the thesis was to develop a web portal for chess players, which is intended to be a place for quality chess joining over the Internet and chess education. This need is caused by existing social networks and websites for playing chess, which offer you a very small amount of quality chess joining and education. As a result of the work the chess portal was created. We have presented the development of the chess portal in the thesis, which has all the features the chess players are interested in: the social part, the chess part and the concept of visibility. The social part is designed for chess joining and includes profiles, groups, interconnection of users and the affiliation of users with groups. The chess part is designed for chess education and includes chess games, the possibility of commenting on them and viewing games from Slovenian chess games database 1991-2008. The concept of visibility allows information to be hidden, especially chess games, which is a usual practice in the chess world. These features allow users themselves to create the content of the chess portal. One of the features the chess portal has not, but it can be done, is a messaging system on the chess portal. We have used the PHP scripting language, the MySQL database management system, the Apache web server, the jQuery library and other tools for the development. The development is based on the MVC architecture. For a more vivid idea of the proper functioning of the chess portal, we also added screenshots of its use in the thesis.
