Nejc Trdin (2011) Decision support model for management of water sources. EngD thesis.
Abstract
Meeting the criteria for drinking water to be appropriate is one of the areas which requires constant monitoring. In this work we are dealing with computer decision support between the measures for adequacy of water. We study the area of drinking water and area of decision support. In this work we do not consider the whole Slovenian territory, but just Ljubljansko polje aquifer, which consists of 20 wells and observing boreholes. The wish for computer decision making is mainly in large quantity of pollutant values to consider and in large load on the expert, who was carrying out all the work until now. With this action we also reduce the possibility of making wrong decisions in critical situations. Along with gathering previous measurement data, we develop two DEX decision models, where one is completely general and the other is adjusted for a specific location and pollutant. We also develop a computer program, which enables us to control it with input arguments, what is also a part of automatically inquring the correct decision model. Along with the main program, we develop a graphical user interface, which includes and enables all necessary operations for effective management of selected water source. In the end we also assess the current condition of Ljubljansko polje aquifer, by taking into account all but the last measurement for each location and pollutant, and then inquire the developed program for appropriate action with the last remaining measurement. We find the results and suggested actions logical and that they show relatively good chemical condition of the water source and with it the suitability of the water source for utilizing it as drinking water.
