Aljaž Gec (2012) The design of information systems for elementary schools. EngD thesis.
Abstract
Recently, we can face a fast technical progress and the related development of information technology. In the past few decades, information technology has become a part of our everyday life, therefore it is becoming an increasingly important part of our lives. Informatics has appeared in all areas of human activity, so we face it at every step. State institutions are not an exception, the informatics has become their important part and at the same time it is an important link in their operation. Among the state institutions there are all public educational institutions. Education is not an exception, so there is a tendency for computerization and widespread use of modern computer software. In spite of this, at the national level, there is no model that would form the basis of modern information system for an average Slovenian primary school. The information technology equipment of individual schools in our country mainly depends on the commitment of staff, who is responsible for this area, that’s why the school equipment from school to school varies a lot. The information systems are becoming more complex and larger, so the need for documentation, covering the area of primary information system, has appeared. School information systems have mainly been developed individually, so each presents its own story, and therefore we do not have a reference model for information system. The purpose of the thesis is to present a theoretical model of a modern information system of rural primary schools, which could serve as reference documents for the computerization of schools which do not have their own information system.
