Luka Pifko (2012) Mobile application for surveys. EngD thesis.
Abstract
The main objective of the diploma thesis is to produce a system that supports field interviewers. The introduction defines the problem and reasons for making such a system. All the technologies which we have used to achieve the objective are described within. We have made a web application designed for questionnaire designers. The designing of the questionnaires is dynamic and client-side up until the user decides to send the data to the database. In addition to designing questionnaires, the user has an overview of all the questionnaires and can perform various operations on them. There is also a graphical overview of the interview responses collected by the interviewer on the mobile device. We have also developed a mobile application for field interviewers. It can download and store the questionnaires, of which the responses can then be logged and reported back to the server. For the production of the mobile application we have used PhoneGap framework that is intended to work on a large number of popular mobile operating systems. Mobile and web applications simplify the process of creating questionnaires, collecting responses and viewing comprehensive reports of the collected answers of respondents. The system fully removes the need to use paper forms which can lead to significant cost savings for enterprises engaged in researching the market. The core of the thesis is the design, development and presentation of the mobile and web applications. In the conclusion, we provide findings and reflection on possible additional application functionality.
