Abstract
This is the material for the hands on section of the St. Luke's Life Science Institute's seminar on Evidence-Based Medicine and Nursing Workshop (Karuizawa, Japan, 2005). The text vaguely follows the CRISP-DM standard (www.crisp-dm.org), but is adapted for the purposes of medical data mining and for the use at the workshop, so the selection of methods and their descriptions is limited in width and depth. The text is includes general guidelines and advices and exercises for the hands-on section. Most exercises use the Cleveland “heart disease” data (Robert Detrano, V.A. Medical Center, Long Beach and Cleveland Clinic Foundation, downloaded from the UCI ML repository, and edited by Janez Demsar).
