Abstract
The purpose of this diploma is to raise understanding of search engine optimisation techniques, which are used to influence a web page's rank in search engines in respect to rules set by engines. First modern search engines and their algorithms are presented and analyzed as well as their algorithms and their evolution from basic search engines. Optimisation techniques are then according to the findings applied to a web site and the results are analyzed. The diploma goals are to: • analyze and describe modern search engines as well as their evolution from basic search engines • analyze and compare optimisation techniques used on some of the highest ranked web sites for the most popular keywords on the World Wide Web and on Slovenian web • find and describe several optimisation techniques, their advantages, disadvantages and possible pitfalls • apply optimisation techniques to a web site and analyze the results Diploma is concluded with a short summary, a review of successful implementation and with a discussion about possible further optimisation.
