    Abstract

In this thesis we present the properties, development and usage of the semantic web. In the first part we describe the begining of the world web and the semantic web. Few words are also devoted to the problems which appear when develping sematic web pages and during their use The second part is dedicated primarily for the presentation of the semantic web. The stack of the semantic web is explained along with the technologies we use. Among these one of the most important is Resource Description Framework (RDF), since with it or its extensions we write ontologies, microformats, rules, and more. An important part of the semantic web is also described, which is comprised of metadata, ontologies and intelligent agents. In the last part, the practical part of the thesis is presented. For the needs of this part we »invented« the company »Cestna Oprema«. In this part we present in the beginning the compay and SEO website analysis. We describe the deficiencies which could be eliminated in order to get a higher SEO evaluation of the page. This would mean a better ranking among results and may increase the company performance. We continue with the analysis of the two ontologies, which could be used in the company. However, since every company has its own needs and it is difficult or almost impossible to find an ontology that would fully satisfy each firm, we also demonstrate how to make ontologies with the Protégé programme.
