Tomaž Sabo (2008) Menu and shopping list predictions in an intelligent fridge. EngD thesis.
Abstract
In my diploma work I designed and implemented an application for a system of the intelligent refrigerator. The purpose of such application is an assessment of provisions equipped with RFID tags, a prediction of the menu based on the recipes that can be made of such food supplies, a creation and editing of the shopping lists for the lacking food products. For the requirements of the application I designed a database of food products and recipes and determined a suitable data structure for writing information on the RFID tags. I implemented the refrigerator's function of the prediction of the menu with regard to the food supplies also as a web service and by doing so I demonstrated one of many possible uses of web services in such intelligent refrigerator system. The application and the web service are both written in Java, while PostgreSQL is used for the database. I tested the application on a real intelligent refrigerator system prototype. With the use of test RFID readers the application worked sufficiently so I could test all its functions. I offered some possible improvements and expansions of the system, for example, the expansion of the database with a larger amount of food products and recipes, the more detailed categorization of food products, the expansion of the food products data, the connection of the application with online grocery stores and the possibility of analysing the consumer's eating habits on the basis of the recorded history. The application is designed generally enough to enable a simple expansion of the system with additional functions.
