Abstract

The main aim of the diploma thesis is the comparison of the two development techniques that are nowadays very-popular in the development of interactive web applications. Based on the example on web news application development, we compare the development technology in PHP with the version of the same technology which was additionally upgraded by means of AJAX. In the second chapter we introduce the basic terms of the RUP methodology which was chosen for the development of the web news application and after that describe the technologies, techniques and tools used in solving the stated problem. The main emphasis of the diploma thesis is on the development of the web news application. In the first part of this development we are mostly dealing with the following technologies: HTML, PHP, CSS, MySQL and JS. The second development part is an upgrade of the first one by means of AJAX which enables the system to operate on higher interactivity levels. The main part of the diploma thesis also includes the system analysis and planning – with all diagrams appertaining to this matters. The subject on development is followed by a detailed presentation of the web news application as well as of some other system input masks. The application enables the visitor to read all the news in the database. He has the option to register and log-in to the web news system. Once this is done, the visitor or guest becomes an user and thus gains access to the expanded functionality which enables him to add, change or even delete his own news. Besides that, the user has a chat room at his disposal where he can interactively communicate with other users. Furthermore, the user can also gain the administrator status and thus expand the functionality even more. Unlike the user, the administrator can change and delete all news and not just the ones created by himself; moreover, he can change the status of all other users. Finally, we compare the technologies and tools used in web application development. We point out the advantages and disadvantages of both development methods in objective manner. We also state the findings and ideas that sprang up while writing the diploma thesis.
