    Abstract

Effective project management requires qualified project managers, who must have complete control over their projects, so they can perform fluently. For easier and more effective project management, we can use various software solutions. In my graduation thesis I focused on working with resources - detecting and resolving their over-allocation. For their regulation I have used Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 in connection with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007. My goal was to find ways, how to detect over-allocation through project office as soon as possible, what are its symptoms and to identify and test ways to resolve it. For effective control of resources is very important, that all resources are located in one place, what we do with Project Server, where we combine all resources into resource pool, from which they are then available for project managers. After testing various ways of resolving over-allocation, I have come to the conclusion, that it is very important, that all project managers constantly publish project changes on Project Server and provide the latest information about resources for other managers. Although Project Server allows control of all projects and resources in one place, it doesn’t provide any functionality to deal with allocation. We do that with Microsoft Office Project Professional, where it is very important that project plans are created correctly.
