Miha Rojko (2010) Web application for acquisition and storage of Slovenian speech recordings. EngD thesis.
Abstract
This diploma thesis describes a web application for capturing and storing speech recordings of the Slovenian language. This application enables any user to record different sentences using the embedded speech recorder application. Sentences are part of the text which has been created by the registered user during the text-creation process. The web application also enables the administrator to manage the contents of the included sites using a content management system. All recordings are stored on a server and are accessible for free downloads. The recordings are uploaded from the speech recorder when the text-recording process is complete. The speech recorder offers the user several sentences which are part of the chosen text. The recorder enables the visitors to record the same statement multiple times. The application also captures basic information about the speaker and enables him to change the microphone level if needed. PHP technology was used to implement the content management system. With MySQL relational database it forms the web application framework. The speech recorder is implemented as a Java Applet application. Descriptions of certain parts of the system are also given – these can serve as a starting point for further development of the application. The thesis concludes with the examples that demonstrate how the application is used by different types of users: visitor, user and administrator.
