Žiga Lipar (2010) Network for the exchange of automated environmental monitoring data. EngD thesis.
Abstract
Measures to be taken in case of a nuclear accident are based on crucial data from radiological and meteorological readings. Meteorological data are important regarding the possible spread of radioactive contamination. A network of automatic measuring stations is set up throughout Slovenia, the highest concentration of stations is centered around the nuclear powerplant Krško. These stations are part of an early warning emergency network, which is managed by SNSA (The Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration) In terms with the membership in EURDEP (European Radiological Data Exchange Platform), the data accumulated via the network are shared with other members of the international nuclear safety community. EURDEP specifies a standardized format for reports which are automatically generated and sent. For my thesis I developed a software which generates these reports in EURDEP format. Input from the user contains the exactly listed types of measurements and the station to be included in the report. In order to generate the report the program must acquire the latest measurements and edit them into appropriate form. The program is deployed and in active use by the SNSA. Reports are successfully generated and sent with the latest measurments and an interactive map on EURDEP's website http://eurdep.jrc.ec.europa.eu/ is based on these reports.
