Abstract

The main objective of the thesis is the development of a new software package for plotting of the network topology of large companies and thus help the network administrator to make the system documentation. The thesis is divided into three major sections. The first chapter describes the main protocols which we used in the implementation of the software package. These protocols are: SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol), OSPF (Open Shortest Path First). After the description of the protocols, a comparison of the software packages with existing solutions follows. Here mostly the operations of other software solutions are described, their way of obtaining information from the network and the installation process. In the last part of the thesis we described the major parts of our software package. These relate mostly to construction and normalisation of the database, the display of the diagram of cases used and the description of how we developed some parts of the software package.
