Grega Matjaž (2011) Warehouse management in ERP system. EngD thesis.
Abstract
The acronym ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) celebrated its twentieth anniversary last year. In 1990 this acronym was used for the first time by the analysis group Gartner to refer to systems that have the ability to support several business functions in the same way. Today these systems are mainly introduced in large companies but because of their advantages they are also spreading to small and medium-sized companies. A decade ago, it seemed that ERP systems will become almighty. This statement implies that they will provide support to all processes within the company. But those dreams soon vanished. Especially because ERP systems did never exactly shine in the tasks for which they have not been designed. Originally they were intended for the computerization of back-office tasks. When deciding whether to implement ERP system, companies are faced with questions like how to select an appropriate ERP system, how to prepare for implementation of the system, which are key factors of a successful implementation and what are fundamental flaws in the implementation process of such a system in the company. This thesis will not just present a comprehensive description of ERP systems it will also describe some solutions in the Slovenian market place, both from known foreign and domestic software vendors. Among domestic vendors I included a description of the ERP system, which was developed by a company called Minoa. Storage management is also presented which helps to optimize the process of gathering all incoming orders and preparing them for transportation. Ilirija d.d. is used as an example of good practice. There will also be shown the situation before and after the successful implementation was.
