Marko Vatovec (2011) An Approach to Implementation of Green Computing. EngD thesis.
Abstract
With fast development of information technology and its integration in all fields of society, the influences it has on environment have been increasing as well. The role information technology has in environmental problem can’t be overlooked anymore, which calls for solutions that will diminish the negative impacts of information technology on the environment. Green computing is an approach to solving the environmental issues to which information technology contributes. In the beginnings of this approach, it was mostly centered on energy consumption issues, especially in data centers. Today it is clear that the reduction of environmental impacts of information technology will have to be considered in all areas of informatics, even by smallest consumers. This thesis gives an overview of current practices and suggests a list of procedures and suggestions for implementing more environmentally friendly information technology that are based on current good practices and cover all phases of information systems development, from analysis to the final realization of a system or a process.
