    Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the software module for internal combustion engines analysis. Such software package is very useful to car, airline or nautical industry experts when planning, testing and manufacturing engines. The first part presents the history and the basics of engine operation, as well as measurements and measuring techniques in general. Not so long ago, an assigned hardware was used within measurement techniques in order to process data in a completely analogue matter. The software was integrated directly into the chip of an instrument, and was used mostly to present data rather than perform any serious calculations. The downsides of this are large and heavy instruments, mostly designed for one purpose only. But the increase of processor power and the amount of computers’ memory space made way for the digital signal analysis technique. Hardware merely acquires the data, transforms it into digital recording, and digital data processing techniques are performed further on. The instruments are smaller and lighter and, most of all, able to perform several different tasks. That chapter is followed by the presentation of software module for engine analysis where different methods of physics data acquisition and its transformation into computer recording are presented in a detailed manner. This data is processed with different methods stemming from numerical mathematics and digital data processing and transformed into standard parameters, needed by engineers when describing the engines’ operations. Such data can often be understood more easily when presented in the form of diagrams and spreadsheets rather than bare numbers; therefore, the visualization of data is another important part of the process. The final part of the paper deals with the verification of the data analyzer outputs. They were compared with the AVL company software package.
