    Abstract

GIS (Geographical Information System) is a set of hardware, software and procedures that allow editing, managing, analyzing, modeling, presentation and display geographically referenced data in order to solve complex problems of planning and resource management [4]. The state as the owner of the mineral resources for a long time did not have a digital overview of mineral deposits and the corresponding tax base, by each holder of mining rights is obliged to pay annually. It was therefore necessary to establish an appropriate information system. Development life cycle of information system consists of six main development phases; strategic planning, system analysis, system design, system construction, implementation, commissioning and testing, operation and maintenance [1]. These stages are described below and explained in more detail. The final result is a Web GIS application of mineral deposits in Slovenia, which allows a more consistent records and system checks for imposing tax on holders of mining rights. Mentioned GIS application is currently being upgraded. Upgrade aims to support automation of the direct capture of data in the field. The result of upgrade will be mobile web GIS application.
