    Abstract

Every one of us, even the less technologically aware, has no choice but to accept technology into his day to day life. This also includes our home, where the term "smart house" is more and more frequently heard. It means a house which has built in electronics in order to automate and control certain situations. My goal for this thesis was to create a system for remote control and manipulation of certain systems in a house. Lighting control and warnings on dangerous situations were my first priorities. Lighting control is a potential electricity saver, while environment control ensures immediate notification in critical situations. In order to achieve this goal I have developed a web application which is used to control the system, control application which controls the microcontroller and a library which takes care of communication between the web server and the microcontroller.
