    Abstract

In the thesis we have developed a mobile application for viewing high resolution images for the Android mobile platform. Each Android application has its limits when it comes to memory usage. The size of the available memory for an application varies from device to device. Some devices have only 16 MB, while others can have 24 MB or more. If we would like to display a 32-bit image of size 4000 x 3000 in a 1:1 ratio, we will spend about 48 MB of memory. In cases where we have only 16 MB per application, our attempt of displaying the image would be unsuccessful. We decided to do this project to offer users a new mobile enviroment for image viewing. We wanted to create a basis for further development, where the end product would be an application for processing and viewing images regardless of their size. For reference we used IrfanView and Adobe Photoshop. In the first part of the thesis we describe the technology used in developing the application, such as the Android operating system and various types of image formats. The central part of the thesis describes an application architecture and development solutions. Other problems and possible further development of the mobile application will be discussed in the conclusions.
