    Abstract

    The Web is a medium for personal expression and the leader of an advertising revolution. Web design is unfairly considered as one of the easiest fields of computing. Designing a website that is transparent, useful and accessible requires the knowledge of experts in the field of usability, graphic design, marketing expertise writing content for web, IT and other technical experts. Simplicity is the goal of the design so that users can concentrate on content. By using the principles of usability, the site is effective at the first contact. Also, these principles provide a fast, transparent and easy access to information. A well designed website is much more than just a beautiful decoration and good site architecture enables efficient website. If the balance between graphics, structure and interactivity is done correctly, website should be transparent to the user. Elderly users and users with special needs are often ignored group of web users are. Such users may have vision problems, poor motor skills or any other physical or mental limitations. With consistent use of rules of accessibility on websites, elderly are given the opportunity of integration into a modern information society. People with disabilities represent segment of society, which may gain the most from new technologies in information society. I finished my thesis with an example of redesign of the website SemKarJem.si. We developed a plan to rebuild the website which is now more accessible and useful to the widest range of visitors.
