    Abstract

With growing awareness of consumers about the quality of products there is a great need to trace products in the supply chain. Nowadays RFID technology is gaining importance in comparison to technology of bar codes. All over the world numerous studies and projects were conducted aimed at examining the adequacy and appropriateness of the use of RFID technology in the field of traceability. The thesis presents an implementation of a traceability system using modern information technologies. It describes standards, RFID technology, EPCIS system and mobile application development. Practical part is presented by an application developed for a mobile RFID reader. It is used for ordering the products in the store and to verify received items, more specific the farmed fish, without using the paper documentation or the personal computer. Fosstrak interface is used in the implementation to enable the access to the data in EPCIS database. Application functionalities were tested with real data, provided by pilot implementation of RFID system. The later was carried out within RFID-F2F project in the Laboratory for Computer Architecture at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at University of Ljubljana.
