Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to develop an application for library management based on RFID technology in order to facilitate and accelerate the implementation of the automated library processes, such as book rental, return and administration of books and members. This thesis presents the history and development of RFID technology, its strengths, weaknesses and information of the RFID system. It also describes the model and protocols which are used for communication between devices and the database used to store application data. This thesis contains detailed description of the implementation of the application Knjižnica and tools that are used to implement it. It also presents the implementation of a program called Knjižnica, which represents the user interface for performing library processes and the implementation of program called BralecRFID which is running on the RFID reader. This program enables reading and writing to RFID tags, in which identification code for books, as well as employees and customers is stored. Given that the implemented solution does not include all the functionalities of real world library applications, additional upgrade options and implementation of real world library systems are described at the end of this thesis.
