Aleš Boštjančič (2013) An embedded system for water and energy consumption accounting in public places. EngD thesis.
Abstract
This thesis focuses on a embedded system for water and energy consumption accounting in public places, such as marinas, municipal mooring berths or camping places. The system is based on an advanced microcontroller system combined with specific water and electricity consumption sensors. It allows consumption monitoring on an individual basis. As such, is designed to grant access only to authorized users. User identification is performed by using RFID technology. Each user authenticates on the system by using his own RFID key. The system is composed of a central server and one or more user terminals, interconnected by Ethernet. The server authorizes access to any single user based on user authentication, while at the same time providing persistent storage for user's consumption data. There is provision for system administration by implementing a web-based application. As such it can be administered either locally, on the site, or from remote locations by using internet access.
