    Abstract

Our thesis demonstrates an example implementation of a web application, used for organizing sports events, written using the Ruby on Rails framework. The application's main goal is to enable individuals to organize or take part in an event in their local area. The first chapter includes a brief summary of all the tools and programming languages we used in our thesis such as HTML, AJAX, JavaScript, JSON, Ruby and Ruby on Rails. In the second chapter, we present an overview of our database schema design and the implementation of our application's backend and user interface. The following chapter introduces all three major implemented user roles: administrator, sports society manager and regular user. We also present the user paths of our application's most important functionality more thoroughly. The application was also deployed to a private server, to better demonstrate real world usability.
