    Abstract

Information systems have an increasingly important role in the successful execution of business processes. Information systems need to be planned and developed so that they create added value. Information system development processes are constantly changing and adjusting to new information technologies, needs of projects, development groups etc. Information system development process can be considered as a special form of general business processes. For general business processes already exist standardizied recommended approaches for improving (heuristics). The aim of the master's thesis is to apply heuristics for improvement of general business processes on information systems development process. A comprehensive framework was developed that helps companies to select appropriate heuristics to improve their information systems development processes. The framework was tested in a case study performed in a company that develops information systems. The management of the company confirmed that the framework offered them new and relevant information.
