    Abstract

An overview of existing educational games for children on Android mobile platform and categorisation was made. The best games in each category are presented and used as examples for preparing recommendations on implementation of such games. The largest deficiency of games in Slovenian is noticed in the category Alphabet. Because of this, we have designed and developed a game called Žirafko's adventure (slov. Žirafkovo potovanje). In this game, users must find the first letters of depicted objects play a memory game by connecting tiles with images of objects and tiles with their names, collect objects that start with a displayed letter and recognise all letters in the name of a shown object. With the help of playful characters, a child travels into a magical world and improves its literacy along the way. Testing with target groups of children established their attention has been increased, but for determining a long-term effect an extended testing period is needed.
