Abstract

The aim of the thesis is to present a list of different data migration methods and strategies from some data source to (usually) database, to describe roles experts have on such a project, to warn of the potential complications and to offer solutions, which can be found in the literature or are part of experience gained on different projects. The topic is presented in general, since nature of data migration varies from project to project, in order to embrace as many projects as possible and to help anyone who will be faced with data migration. The theme is particularly interesting because the business applications are constantly changing or are even replaced with new ones (new technologies, new business rules), the amount of generated data is increasing, the owners of business data do not want to lose the old data while data is transitioned to a new information system.
