Miha Trtnik (2009) Social network sites application development for viral marketing needs on Facebook Platform example. EngD thesis.
Abstract
Facebook is currently the largest social network site out there, but certainly not the only one. At this time Facebook has over three hundred and fifty million active users. The mass of people offers advertisers new approaches and methods of delivering their messages to users. In my bachelor's thesis I begin by defining how users of social network sites are connected, how these networks evolved and what a social network site really is. I examine the feasibility of viral marketing through the eyes of potential advertiser. In the second section I briefly introduced technologies used to connect applications with the Facebook platform. I researched possible integration points through which application can be linked to end-users. I developed an application prototype that allows raffles to be played. Application enables you to add a raffle with one question and multiple-choice answers, of which one is correct. Facebook users can participate in the raffle if they correctly answer to the provided question. I have included elements that allow easier and faster viral spread. Such elements, for example, automatically send messages and recommendations to friends, send e-mails etc. In conclusion I explain the advantages and disadvantages of Facebook Platform that I have learned during my work.
