    Abstract

    The thesis describes the Internet Protocol, IPv4 and IPv6, the comparison between them, mechanisms to ensure safety and mechanisms that have contributed to reducing the consumption of IPv4 address space. It also describes in detail the IPv6 protocol, its strengths, weaknesses, problems of use and compatibility with the existing IPv4 protocol. Described the deployment of IPv6 in the businesses and the costs, which may be incurred in undertaking the transition to IPv6.
