    Abstract

In this period of time when the tempo of modern life is filled with rapid changes in the field of science and technology and is ruled by globalization, companies have to adopt themselves very fast if they want to remain competitive and operate with success. They have to become more and more responsible and adaptable because the costumers have become more exacting and less loyal. Companies have to keep pace with technological progress introducing newer and better technologies. One of the most important technologies is certainly the information technology which is widely used by companies to keep their competitive position. Adaptability and responsibility of the company can be obtained only with an information supported production process. In this diploma seminar paper I presented the production process and its arrangement before the introduction of PIS (production information system). In the first part I described two main ideas which represent the framework of this paper: production process and production information system. Later on, I gradually described all the phases of the arrangement of the production process which were performed in the Metal Design d.o.o. company. They include cleaning, organizing, optimization and support of the production process. The diploma seminar paper ends with the formation of data for PIS and a brief report of the problems we faced. All phases are based on theoretical facts from the field of arranging production process and are followed by the reports of practical examples performed in the company.
