Abstract
Nowadays the energy prices are continuously growing. We can cope with the current trend by replacing or upgrading heating systems, switching to some other energy sources, or by better insulating buildings. Usually it is more cost effective to upgrade the existing system with another device than completely replace it. However, it is difficult to tune-up the upgraded system as each device has its own peculiarities. If we want to effectively manage all devices in a heating system, we must control them centrally. Therefore, we propose a central control system composed of a microcontroller with some sensors and actuators, which has supplemented or completely replaced the existing control devices. A user can operate the central control system via a physical user interface, providing instant adaptations of the system, via a web user interface designed for thorough control of the system, and remotely via e-mail messages. With the proposed central control system we improved the efficiency of heating devices and thus importantly reduced energy consumption of the building. Besides, broad list of user-machine interfaces enables easy control and management of the heating system.
