Peter Brezovnik (2014) Business Rules in Business Processes. EngD thesis.
Abstract
Changes are unavoidable and as such they should be addressed appropriately. This means that the companies should know how to manage their business processes (BPM) and how to adapt them to their business environment in order to increase business efficiency, business progression or just to keep their place on the market. The changes refer not only to business processes, but to the supporting application systems as well. These systems contain business logic in the form of business rules which enable automation and consistent overview of decisions that are executing in business processes. Since these decisions change dynamically it is vital to manage them properly in order to achieve business agility. In this diploma thesis we focus on presenting the importance of business rules from different angles. We describe the rules in detail and explain the meaning of Business Rule Management System (BRMS) which together with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) enables management and maintenance of Business Rules.
